Stapled booklets with you in 3 working days, perfect bound books in 5 and hardbacks in 7. Free UK tracked delivery.
Lead times depend on run length and print spec. The clock starts once your artwork is approved for print, so tell us your date up front.
Our turnaround times
Those are working days, Monday to Friday, and they include free UK tracked delivery to one address. So they count the days until your books are with you, not just until they leave us.
A short run of stapled zines and a long run of cloth-covered hardbacks are very different jobs. Longer runs, premium finishes and our busy seasons all take a little longer, and we’ll always tell you what’s realistic for yours.
When the clock starts
The count begins once your artwork is approved for print: when you approve your proof, or, on short runs that go straight to print, once our file check passes it. Everything before that point comes on top, so it pays to get your files to us in good shape.
- Send your filesYour PDF by WeTransfer to hello@exwhyzed.com, with your print choices, quantity and delivery address.
- We check them, freeA real person checks every file by hand, usually the same day. If anything needs tweaking, allow a day or two.
- Approve your proof, where you get oneOn most runs of 21 copies or more, and on every hardback, you’ll get a PDF proof to approve. Runs of 1–20 stapled or perfect bound copies go straight to print after the file check. Our proof guide explains more.
- Pay the invoiceWe invoice once your artwork is print ready, and printing starts once payment clears. Bank transfer or card online, whichever suits you.
- We print, bind and deliver3, 5 or 7 working days, depending on your binding.
What adds time
| What adds time | How much to allow |
|---|---|
| File tweaks | A day or two, on top of print time |
| A printed (hard-copy) proof | 2–3 days |
| Foil, spot UV or embossing on the cover | 5–6 working days extra |
| Litho hardbacks with section sewing or a premium cover, from September | Allow 4–8 weeks |
| Degree show season, April–June | Our busiest months, so send files early |
| The run-up to Christmas, November–December | Busy too, so send files early |
| Christmas closure | We’re closed from about 19 or 20 December to 6 January |
Get your files to us early in those months. We print jobs in the order they come in, so an early start is the surest way to hit your date. For Christmas, remember we close from about 19 or 20 December until 6 January.
Planning back from a deadline: an example
Say you need 100 perfect bound books for a launch on a Friday. At more than 20 copies, you’ll usually get a PDF proof to approve. Here’s how the working days fall.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Monday, week 1 | You send your files. We check them, usually the same day, and sort any tweaks with you. |
| Wednesday, week 1 | You approve your proof and pay. The 5 working days start here. |
| Wednesday, week 2 | Your books arrive, 5 working days later. |
| Thursday, week 2 | A spare day, in case the courier runs late. |
| Friday, week 2 | Your launch. |
So for a Friday launch, send your files on the Monday of the week before: nine working days ahead. Stapled? You can take two days off that. Hardback? Add two.
For a launch or an event, a timed delivery slot means you’re not waiting in all day. More on that below.
On delivery day
- Someone needs to be in to sign for your parcel.
- Timed slots for deadlines: before 9am (£12) or before noon (£8).
- Friday dispatch usually arrives on the Monday.
- We can’t pass on the courier’s phone number. We’re the courier’s account holder, though, so if anything goes wrong, we chase them for you.
- More than one address? Tell us the addresses and how many copies go to each when you order, and we’ll quote the split delivery.
Couriers sometimes slip, which is why our example leaves a spare day. Our delivery information page has the details. If a parcel arrives damaged, see what to do about damaged boxes, and if it’s marked delivered but hasn’t turned up, see missing parcels.
Can you print it faster?
Rarely, and never for bound books. We don’t offer a paid rush service. Jobs run in the order they come in, which is the only fair way, and rushing is where mistakes creep in.
What we can do is plan with you. Tell us your date before you order, and we’ll say straight away whether it’s doable, then build the whole job around it.
Fast efficient turn-around, and great communication on details. I was having difficulty finding a printer able to produce a map-style folded conference programme. Mike and the team came to the rescue.
Quick questions
Do the times include delivery?
Yes. Stapled booklets are with you in 3 working days, perfect bound books in 5 and hardbacks in 7, with free UK tracked delivery. Lead times depend on run length and print spec.
Do weekends count?
No. Turnaround is counted in working days, Monday to Friday. A parcel sent out on a Friday usually arrives on the Monday.
When are you closed over Christmas?
From about 19 or 20 December to 6 January. November and December are busy, and hardbacks get busy from September, so get Christmas orders to us early.
Can I pay extra to jump the queue?
No. We don’t offer a paid rush service, because jobs run in sequence. The best way to a tight date is telling us about it early.
How quickly will I get a quote?
Usually within an hour or two, and the same working day. For 1–20 copies, our instant price calculator prices it as you click.
