Friends In High Places II is Will Rupp’s second climbing photography book, documenting bold trad lines and big mountain days across the UK and beyond. Designed as an A4 landscape perfect bound photobook, it uses wide, cinematic spreads to put the reader right on the wall. We worked with Will to print a crisp, colour-rich edition that does justice to both the climbing and the landscapes.
This is a book for climbers and anyone who loves dramatic rock architecture. Friends In High Places II mixes close-up shots of climbers on steep walls with wide, airy views of sea cliffs, winter ridges and remote islands.
Short captions and annotations guide the reader through each route, showing lines, grades and locations without cluttering the photography. The A4 landscape format gives big routes room to stretch across the gutter, letting the exposure and sense of height really land.
We produced the book as an A4 landscape perfect bound title, ideal for high-impact photography and long captions. The 4pp cover is printed on 350gsm silk with matt lamination to the outside, giving a smooth, durable finish that resists scuffs in rucksacks and kit bags.
Inside, 112 pages are printed four-colour throughout on 150gsm silk. This stock choice keeps the book light enough to handle easily while still feeling substantial in the hand. Silk coating helps the fine detail in rock texture, ropes and hardware stay sharp, and keeps deep blues and greens vibrant across each spread.

The cover is a straight hit of exposure: two climbers halfway up a huge orange sea cliff, framed by the sea foaming at the base. The title sits low and clean over the rock, with a simple subtitle explaining the UK focus. It sets the tone immediately – modern, energetic, no fuss.
Inside, Will layers vector graphics over some spreads – contour lines, route markings and subtle map textures that echo guidebooks without overwhelming the images. On other pages the design steps back, letting a single double-page photograph of a face like Mirror Wall or a snow ridge carry the story.
Throughout, thoughtful sequencing moves the reader from dark, moody crags to bright winter light and turquoise bays, building a sense of range and adventure.
Will first emailed for a quote on an A4 landscape perfect bound book with 68 pages, asking for prices at 25, 50 and 100 copies. Our account team replied with detailed pricing, turnaround times and free UK delivery, giving him clear options for his second edition.
Once he confirmed an order for 25 copies, we set up an online proof and invoice and worked from his supplied PDFs. During proofing, Will had questions about how the online viewer showed spreads and about the cover layout, so Mike and Harriet explained how the first pages represented the outer and inner covers and clarified which pages would pair as reader spreads. We also corrected the quoted spine width, confirming a revised 5mm spine file before going ahead.
Timing was tight: Will asked if delivery could land on a specific Friday around Airbnb bookings. Our team coordinated with dispatch, held the job back when needed and then rearranged shipment to a Saturday morning slot, with instructions for where the parcel could be safely left.
For a self-published climbing photobook, the production details really matter – from spine width to how images sit across the gutter. We guided Will through the quoting and proofing stages, giving clear explanations in plain language so he could be confident about how each spread would land in print.
Our team checked the PDFs, updated the cover to the correct spine size and ensured the matt-laminated 350gsm silk cover would stand up to life in packs and on sales tables. We also stayed flexible on shipping, adjusting dispatch dates and arranging Saturday delivery at no extra cost to fit around his schedule. The result is an A4 landscape photobook that feels robust, professional and ready for many rounds of page-turning by climbers comparing notes.
