About the Book

Prosperina is a unique, image-led hardback by Cristina Pascu-Tulbure. Built around the myth of Proserpina/Persephone, it uses photography and richly detailed illustration to explore inner transformation, female experience, and the passage between light and darkness.

Inside, the project leans into “Dialogues in the Victorian Language of Flowers” — a perfect match for the book’s ornate typography, floral motifs, and carefully paced narrative spreads. It’s the kind of fine-art book that rewards a slow flip, then a second, closer look.

If you’re planning a self-published art or photography title, our team can guide you through format, paper and binding choices via our print journey — or jump straight into an instant printing quote.

Print Specification & Materials

This project was printed as an A4 landscape casebound hardback — a generous, gallery-like format that gives artwork room to breathe. The silk stocks keep colour and detail crisp, which is vital when the content is intricate and image-driven.

  • Format: A4 Landscape
  • Binding: Casebound hardback
  • Cover: 170gsm silk, wrapped over greyboard case, matt laminated to outer
  • Endpapers: 2 × 4pp endpapers on 170gsm uncoated
  • Text pages: 108pp on 130gsm silk (approx. 11mm spine)
  • Print: Full colour throughout

Hardbacks are all about confidence in the hand. If you’re weighing up options, our hardback book printing service is a good place to start, alongside our hardback set-up guide for cover files, endpapers and page order.

Design Nuances We Loved

This is a book of beautiful control: wide margins, clean pacing, and then bursts of dense visual information. The Victorian-inspired styling (borders, decorative rules, and classic letterforms) frames the work like a series of plates — giving each section a ceremonial feel.

The imagery is where the project really flexes. The artwork is highly detailed, with layered textures and floral symbolism that echoes the “language of flowers” thread. When you combine that with silk stock, you get depth without muddiness — the kind of clarity that makes fine detail worth printing.

And those opening moments matter: patterned endpapers and a strong title page set the tone immediately. In an image-led hardback, that first five seconds can decide whether someone keeps flipping.

The Client’s Print Journey

Cristina came to us with a clear vision and a practical deadline. Across the emails, we supported her through the realities of hardback set-up: cover spreads with the correct spine width, endpaper files, and supplying the text pages in the right order with bleed and crop marks.

When the page count evolved, we re-quoted to match the updated spec and kept the project moving. We also preflighted the files, flagged what needed adjusting, and provided a final proof link so Cristina could approve with confidence before the job hit the print queue.

The end result: a premium-feeling hardback that arrived ahead of the deadline — ready to be shared, sold, gifted, or shown as a serious piece of self-published work.

How Our Team Helped

Projects like this are exactly where hands-on support pays off. We translated the technical bits (spine maths, endpaper panels, trim areas) into clear next steps, then backed it up with proofing and preflight checks.

Takeaways for Your Next Self-Published Art Book

  • Let the format do some of the storytelling. A4 landscape gives image sequences space and makes “chapters” feel like exhibitions.
  • Match paper to detail. If your work is intricate, silk stocks help keep fine textures and colour transitions crisp.
  • Design the first minute. Endpapers + title page are your opening scene — use them to set mood and expectation fast.
  • Keep important cover elements out of folds. Hardback covers have wrap areas; build the file with the template so nothing vital disappears.
  • Proof like a pessimist. Check every page, especially full-bleed spreads, borders and fine typography, before approval.
